STEREOHYPE 2004–2014 | ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION | CURATION AND DESIGN
10 years, 1,000 button badges, over 300 contributors, 1 exhibition, 10 specially commissioned posters (together with badge),
1 party squirrel, 1 exhibition catalogue – available at stereohype.com.

Professor Lawrence Zeegen, then Dean of London College of Communication's School of Design kindly invited us to celebrate the 10th anniversary of FL@33's sister-company Stereohype with a massive exhibition in LCC's Lower Street Gallery.
___ After a summer of hectic and thorough preparations the FL@33-designed and curated exhibition Stereohype 2004–2014 opened its gates in September 2014 during London Design Festival and as part of '160' – a series of exhibitions all hosted by the LCC.
____ FL@33 developed numerous appropriate ways to display the whole 1,000-strong collection of Stereohype's fascinating tiny one inch (25mm) button badges in a large gallery space. A giant 30m-long line showing all the button badges next to each other along the entire gallery walls. To complement this – every single one of the 1,000 button badges were also displayed in a super-compressed, bespoke FL@33-designed perspex frame (one square metre) showcasing the collection at one glance.
___ A beautiful anniversary book simply entitled Stereohype 2004–2014 was also published at this occasion. Additionally animations were created showing the 1,000 badges flickering over the gallery's screen.
___ Apart from curating B.I.O. (By Invitation Only) Series 14 in time for the show we also specially commissioned 10 contributions for 10×10 Poster / Badge Anniversary Series and took on the challenge to create another exhibit: a huge low-polygon squirrel sculpture (a new incarnation of Stereohype's mascot) presented in the centre of the gallery space – 1.5m high plus plinth – designed as part of Stereohype's ever-evolving visual identity.
___ Exhibition goodies and other Stereohype products are available via stereohype.com and selected stockists.

THE ANNIVERSARY | OFFICIAL TEXT
Agathe Jacquillat and Tomi Vollauschek of multi-disciplinary design studio founded Stereohype in October 2004 – not just as an experimental playground for the London-based creative duo, but as an international platform for both emerging and established talents alike.
___ Stereohype’s product range includes printed T-shirts and an ever-growing button badge collection that consists of winning designs entered to the label's annual badge design competition (now in its 10th year) plus badges created specially for Stereohype’s By Invitation Only (B.I.O.) initiative. Various other badge design projects are also added to the range occasionally.
___ As well as celebrating Stereohype’s 10th anniversary (a landmark year which sees the number of the label's specially commissioned badges reach the magical figure of 1,000), this exhibition also serves as a huge thank you to the hundreds of collaborators, contributors and stockists that have supported Stereohype over the years.

London College of Communication is hosting a trio of exhibitions, launched as part of London Design Festival 2014, showcasing 50 years of illustration, 100 years of graphic design and ten years of Stereohype's button badges.
___ The exhibitions are open at LCC until /// UPDATE /// Extra week added – exhibition extended due to popular demand. The show now runs until Saturday 8 November (was late October) and include a look at a new Laurence King book on illustration, a collection of 1,000 badges from Stereohype and an exhibition celebrating poster designers Tom Eckersley, Abram Games, FHK Henrion, Josef Müller-Brockmann and Paul Rand. Speaking about the exhibition, Professor Lawrence Zeegen explained: ’160′ at London College of Communication celebrates the work of numerous influential designers and illustrators across the past 100 years. Reflecting the disciplines of graphic design, typography and illustration, all taught and researched within LCC’s School of Design, this trio of exhibitions has been curated to inspire and inform today’s and tomorrow’s generations of design creatives.
___ Launched during the London Design Festival 2014, ’160′ aims to highlight the invaluable connectivity between design industry and design education, many of the exhibitors across all three exhibitions having studied or taught at London College of Communication.

PRESS CLIPPINGS AND FEEDBACK
(...) B.I.O. undoubtedly makes Stereohype one of the coolest online shopping destinations for button badges. (...) Gavin Lucas, excerpt from his book Badge/Button/Pin

(...) The humble button badge is an unforgiving canvas. Small and designed to be viewed from a distance, great badge designs need to be clear and to the point. To celebrate the best of what's possible on a 25mm round surface, 15 years ago Agathe and Tomi from design studio FL@33 and graphic art label Stereohype created a button design competition, asking artists and designers to submit sets of up to four badges. (...) Neil Bennett, Digital Arts

(...) Stereohype's ... badge design competition ... has become an annual, rather joyous stalwart of the emerging designer community in the UK. (...) Emily Gosling, AIGA Eye on Design

Les séries B.I.O. (by invitation only) accessoirisent l’identité personnelle : à exhiber, à afficher, à affirmer. /
(...) The objects – a rather tiny 25mm-wide space for expression – lend themselves to an art of display that can’t be overdone. The B.I.O. (by invitation only) series accessorise personal identity – exhibiting, displaying, asserting it. (...) Caroline Bouige, Étapes: / Étapes: internationalcc

(...) I like the prints very much – the paper and print quality are really excellent. That whole project is so interesting – I'm amazed at the number and variety of the badges, and very impressed by the quality of presentation. I'm happy to have been able to take part in it! (...) Dan Fern
