ROYAL COLLEGE OF ART | RCA SHOW 2020 | CURATED LIVE VIDEO CONFERENCE
Like other students around the world, RCA graduates, too, found themselves in the midst of a 2020 pandemic and unable to present their final year work in the physical world.
___ At the Royal College of Art in London this final year show is usually incredibly well-visited and highly appreciated by peers and the general public alike. Many 10s of thousands of visitors usually explore the graduates' achievements in the few weeks of the summer show.
___ However – thanks to Covid-19 – for the first time in its history, RCA's renowned graduate show had to happen virtually with online presentations on a specially developed final year RCA2020 show website / discovery platform, in conjunction with curated live streaming events, presentations and talks. The online show ran from 16–31 July 2020.

Shown here is one such online event that the RCA put together for students and graduates.

In this unprecedented (and unique) year for Visual Communication graduates, the School of Communication is hosting this unique webinar with some of its highly successful Alumni, which will include;

Hazel Macmillan (Graphic Design 1993)
Morag Myerscough (Graphic Design 1986)

Tomi Vollauschek (Communication Art & Design* 2001)

Initial focus of the discussion will be on how they got started following their graduations (‘.A’ in their professional practice careers), followed by topics such as; significant changes they have witnessed in the communication design industry during their many successful years of practice, what they look for in a prospective, and any advise they can offer new RCA Communication graduates - now at their .A!
___ The panel discussion will last about 60 mins followed by a 30 min Q&A with the audience.

It was a privilege to be invited to such an esteemed round and a real pleasure to talk to fellow RCA Communication Alumni. We are also very glad this was recorded and that we got permission by all involved to share the video with the world and especially recent graduates.
___ As Lol Sargent concluded: (...) .A webinar, which we thought was a great success and you were all fantastic speakers – such an impressive group of highly creative and motivated people gathered in a single ‘space’. There were some fabulous comments and discussion throughout which most certainly must have inspired the 2020 graduates, and no doubt will those in the future. (...) Watching it all again, just confirms to us what an excellent, valuable and really enjoyable session it was! (...)

* The RCA course was renamed and re-structered just before FL@33's Agathe and Tomi started in 1999, and Graphic Design and Illustration were merched for a more multi-disciplinary approach. Many years later it was renamed again to the current Visual Communication.
