1961 SHORT FILM | FILM POSTERS | VISUAL IDENTITY | SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN
New visual identity for the French short film 1961.
___ Shown here is a first series of FL@33-designed film posters and social media visuals to promote the launch of the short film 1961 – an homage to Jean-Luc Godard and the French New Wave.
___ Featuring prominently in the compositions is the bold minimal logo also newly developed by FL@33 for the short film and its film title.
___ The minimal custom typeface and logotype design was created with bold and generous geometric letterforms to allow for the logo to be used as clipping path to reveal photographic footage of a couple – the film's protagonists. Photographic logo variants take centre stage in the film's launch campaign.

1961 SHORT FILM | LA NOUVELLE VAGUE
Produced in 2023 the short film 1961 pays homage to the late Jean-Luc Godard (1930-2022) and his cinematic tour de force. 1961 is a contemporary reflection on Godard's films, his impact as writer and film director, and his muse, actress and later wife Anna Karina (1940-2019) – and their ultimately failed relationship.
___ Godard's body of work established him very early in his career as key figure of the French
New Wave aesthetic with noteable actors including Jean-Paul Belmondo (1933–2021) and Anna Karina. Ripples of this incredibly influential film movement can still be felt today. Vive la Nouvelle Vague!

1961 SHORT FILM | DESIGN INSPIRATION
Taking into consideration Jean-Luc Godard's own use of typography in film titles and film sequences alike, we were initially tempted to mirror Godard's regular use of his own handwriting. Further research reassured us to opt for an alternative to mimicing somebody else's handwriting and instead focus on Godard's also prominent type treatment and use of bold sans serif typefaces in combination with traditional italic serif typefaces. The 1961 custom logotype was subsequently combined with bold Futura MT Maxi Bold and a Garamond Pro Bold Italic.

Synopsis 1961 (English)

Louis, 20 years old, decides to go to the cinema. He meets Alice, but also Jean-Luc Godard's cinematography, a double discovery that would change his life.
___ From then on, he would have one thing in mind: to make a film – with Alice, an irrepressible desire that would bring passion – and pain.

We’re very proud to announce the completion of 1961 Short Film, Raphaël Chadha's directorial debut, with a screenplay by Raphaël and Alexandre Chadha, starring Moncef Farfar, Emmie Poinsot, Robin Uzan and Vincent Petrilli.

___ It was born in London at ESCP Business School as a "Collective Project", where I brought together a team of associate producers Claire-Alix Briaux, Amélie JACQUES, Ohana Duboscq, Victoria Picchi and first-time director Raphael Chadha last October.
Our team shared a vision to honour the late Jean-Luc Godard, one of the pioneers of the French New Wave, and many important late figures of that generation, from Anna Karina to Jean-Paul Belmondo.
___ Production took place in Paris between February and March 2023 under the authority of LA PLANK, the production collective based there, co-founded by Alexandre CHADHA, Aubin Bouillé and Chams Niri. They managed a team of over 30 people on-site that ensured the shooting and editing of the short film.
___ Co-producer Agathe Jacquillat helped bring the project to its feet, and the team grew with collaborators from ESCP Business School and beyond (Really Agency, Theo Olivetto, Close-Up Film Centre). The logo and poster are by Tomi Vollauschek / FL@33.

___ We've applied to the 62nd edition of the 'International Critics' Week' (Semaine de la Critique – Cannes), the oldest parallel non-competitive section of the #CannesFilmFestival. We've also applied to the #ShortFilmCorner, a program at the Cannes Film Festival dedicated to promoting and showcasing short films.
___ We're awaiting the admissions results.  #1961film
