Design Teaching | On 5 December, exactly one month ago, Strate Design Lyon marked a memorable day: the presentation and exhibition of the Strate / Kookmin, Seoul hybrid course, led by FL@33’s Tomi Vollauschek in his new role as Visiting Lecturer – alongside the launch of the new college library. Tomi was delighted to contribute a selection of recommended titles and to donate FL@33 books, including the studio monograph, and Tomi's The 3D Type Book, and Postcard.
___ While the full course documentation is pending final approval before publication on flat33.com, FL@33 can already share a few glimpses of this inspiring new bibliothèque – home to more than 600 titles. The photos were taken just minutes before the official opening.   [edu33]

Design Teaching | While there is still capacity
for more design teaching roles FL@33’s Tomi Vollauschek is pleased to announce his re‑appointment as Visiting Lecturer at ECV Lille for the academic year 2025/2026, teaching two independent online Master‑level modules – Culture Graphique et Parcours Graphique and Stratégie de Communication. In early 2026, he will also return on site to lead his ever‑popular week‑long Masterclass workshop as part of a design residency.
___ In addition, Tomi has recently joined Strate – École de Design, Lyon as Visiting Lecturer, where he leads a multi‑disciplinary hybrid course for fifth‑year students in collaboration with Kookmin University Seoul.
___ All modules feature specially developed syllabi, including a new updated version of Grid Adventures: Design Beyond Boundaries. The dedicated Design Teaching section flat33.com/edu has also been updated – now showcasing 2025 documentations with new snapshots from the Bachelor ECV Bordeaux workshop and ECV Lille Master Diplomas.   [edu33]

Design Teaching | Today was the first introductory class of the new multi-disciplinary course at Strate Design Lyon with a syllabus FL@33's Tomi Vollauschek developed for Strate and their collaborative elective course with partner school Kookmin University in Seoul.
___ Shown here are two of the books that we will be looking at in more detail. The influential Korean graphic designer and typographer Ahn Sang-Soo who is coincidentally also included in Pyramyd Editions good old design&designer monograph series FL@33 also features in.
___ A big MERCI BEAUCOUP to the kind students who patiently put up with me today while I was wielding 1,000 books I schlepped there. I can not wait to see what we can develop with this group of graphic, spatial and product designers.   [edu33]

YEAR 5 | HYBRID INTERNATIONAL COURSE
It was an honour to be appointed Visiting Lecturer [intervenant] at Strate Design Lyon after years of collaboration with international design schools including ECV Lille, ECV Aix-en-Provence, ECV Bordeaux, and MICA Baltimore – delivering workshops, masterclasses, and remote courses in visual communication and experimental design.
___ On this occasion, Tomi Vollauschek of FL@33 led the inaugural Hybrid Year 5 Strate x Kookmin (Seoul) Interdisciplinary Design Course with his specially developed syllabus. The cross-cultural project invited students to explore how French and Korean design perspectives can inform contemporary visual and material practices. Through a combination of conceptual thinking, cultural empathy, and hands-on experimentation, participants investigated flexible multi-disciplinary approaches connecting identity, craft, and product innovation.
